History of Grange Park Methodist Church

Other churches in this Circuit:

Grange Park Methodist Church was founded in the 1920s as the suburbs gradually crept out from London. It is also known as The Church in the Orchard, a name coined by a local journalist covering the opening who observed that the church was built, literally, in the middle of an orchard.

Many of the founding members continued to live all their lives in Grange Park and worship at The Church in the Orchard. The church continues to have quite a few members who have been there for decades. Among its ministers over the years was the noted hymn writer, Fred Pratt Green.

Today, Grange Park has around 120 members. There is a traditional worship service on Sunday mornings, a more contemporary feel to worship on Sunday evenings with use of multi-media, and a contemplative midweek service. The premises are used extensively by a wide variety of community groups and clubs, and the church is keen to develop its witness and mission in this area.

With the Highlands estate on its doorstep, the church is also seeking, with ecumenical partners, to form a worshipping heart in that community, and to encourage community and spirituality.
