History of Bush Hill Park Methodist Church

Other churches in this Circuit:

The Church in Wellington Road was first built in 1905, a church built by the people for the people upon a foundation of prayer. With a growing membership, the building was extended, and the Church as we know it today was erected in 1940 (with special permission because of the war).

As a church family, we try to cater to the needs of all age groups. Recently, we witnessed the presence of the Holy Spirit at work in five of our young people whilst on an Alpha trip. This joy was made complete when they were all confirmed in November. At the other end of the spectrum, we hold a monthly Tea and Worship Service to provide fellowship and physical and spiritual feeding for both our regular worshippers and those who do not come to our church. Our Women's Fellowship and Westey Guild have continued in their work of prayer and fellowship for 58 years.

No matter what our age, from 3 years to 101 years, we all meet with a desire to worship the Lord and seek his message for our lives.

Though our church now has a comparatively small membership, our numbers are increasing, not declining. Recognising the ongoing need for change, we have altered our service times to enable greater continuity with our minister and are introducing new elements, new songs, and a more interactive role for our congregation. Our aim is to fill our church to the rafters with people praising God. Rather than being a "Field of Dreams" church, thinking "build it and they will come", we remember that Jesus said, "Go and make disciples". So we must take Jesus into the community before we can bring the people into our church. Our church was built by the people for the people in 1905; that purpose and the church still stands.
